From the author of the Kellington series of Regency romances, comes the third book in the Emerson saga.

Lady Winifred Pierce has been wrongly accused of the murder of her abusive husband. Despite the best efforts of her family, someone is set on seeing her hang.

Alexander Lewis is the barrister prosecuting the case. He's told it will be the easiest win of his career. But something isn't right. When he objects to the proceedings, he's told to get a conviction or lose the career he worked so hard to attain.

Can two lonely people find love with each other in such desperate circumstances? (Well, yes, it's a romance novel.)

ADVISORY This book is, technically, historical romance. But it is very light on the history and very heavy on the passion. It contains explicit language and graphic sex scenes. You will not like this book if you don't like either of those things. If you prefer your romances clean, you should run screaming from this book.

Always Have Hope Emerson Book 3 edition by Maureen Driscoll Romance eBooks

I finished this book last night. I really enjoyed it, as I have all the Maureen Driscoll books I've read which includes all six in the Kellington series and the other two of the Emerson series. My only negative is that reading these books is almost like reading a serial.... the stories never seem to completely close out. I understand the idea of leaving a "cliffhanger" to get you to read the next in series, but I find myself resenting not being able to feel completed with the current story. The characters are interesting enough to keep one coming back without the pain of unanswered questions.

what an amazing Family ! a bunch of NeverGiveUpLove-ers.

and through it all their unsquelchable Laughter.

i hope some of them rubs off on Me ! when the SHTF, and you're hunkered down in the Great Foxhole of Life nice to Share it...with Friends !
The focus is on the sister who was married young to a brutal man so her Father could continue his extravagant lifestyle. Win has endured 6 years of abuse but the worst is yet to come when her husband is murdered and she is being railroaded into prison. Is it a conspiracy against her or is she guilty wonders Alex the Prosecutor chosen to send Win to the gallows.

Especially enjoyed the return of the Kellingtons who are instrumental in saving Win. The interweaving of the two series is skillful and appreciated.
I've read other books where the overall theme was good things happen, and we accept that good things happen even when we're fighting against the bad things. Marie Force's FATAL series is in that vein.

But this story was just too, too much. It was saccharine sweet. I expected birds and mice to help the women get dressed.

There was nothing special with the writing; it was competent. The dialogue occasionally bordered on mundane. But the characters were the real issue, for me. They were too good too be true.

I'd hate to think that in my advanced years (50's) I've become critical and dour, but I couldn't stand the goodness that oozed out of EVERYONE'S pores. Even the sex scenes were accompanied by a choir of angels.

I'm sorry. It was just too much.
Book 3 of the Emerson family series was a pleasure to read. Thoroughly enjoyed the intermingling of the Kellingtons and Emerson's. It would have been helpful to have a little blurb in the front of the book of who is who Lord Layton is also known as etc. The titles get confusing at times.
I knew Win's story would be special & I was not disappointed. Maureen's characters are so intricately woven...Win was severely brutalized in her marriage & the death of her husband allows her to return to the strong woman she had been & with the help of Alex she finds that she can love again. This is a great series where the characters stay with you long after you put the book down...now the question is..." Why did Grayson's father steal the ledgers" & how will Nick's story turn out??? You know there has to be some "kick-ass" woman waiting to take him in hand! I can't wait for the next installment of "The Emersons" ! This book is not to be missed....
I bought this book this morning and could not put it down! It is everything I thought it would be and more. It had humor, suspense, sadness,
happiness, and more. The Kellingtons were gracious as always and the Emerson were loving and family. win went through such malicious
treatment and Alex was such a hero. And it's not over yet. Who stole the ledgers? I assume that will be figured out in Nick's book. I simply
can hardly wait. Thanks Maureen for such an enjoyable story to the series.
This book is an example of why I often dislike series. Authors think they have to keep ALL their characters going in the series whether they really belong in the story or not. And this book definitely suffered from too many characters. I had no idea who was who most of the time, and then she has a Wilfred and a Winifred, a Rose and a Rosalind, a Nick and a Nate. Come on!

The story suffered from all these people sticking their noses into the book, pulling the tale off track for a pointless scene here and there that did nothing to further the plot. Not to mention a mysterious family story revealed that was completely over the top and of no use whatsoever to this story. And all these side notes rob the storyline of it's flow--the increasing peaks that should lead to the exciting conclusion. I kept waiting for it, but evidently the exciting conclusion is in the next book.

The storyline itself lacked subtlety, with ridiculous characters (i.e.Peyton and the in-laws) who somehow found their way into this book from a broad farce, and a non-end to the crime aspect of the book when the important ledgers were spirited away. The villain ended up capturing the Heroine when there was absolutely no reason to do so--what he wanted was elsewhere, and he knew it. The romantic storyline was completely unbelievable for someone who had gone through the beatings she had. She would probably need counselling for a year just to let a man near her. But instead, she fell in love and got married all in about a week. Two tops.

There was nothing realistic about all the encouragement toward sleeping together either. This was supposed to be 1823, for Pete's sake.

Almost no one in this book is well-described, which doesn't help with keeping the cast of thousands straight, and many of the men's personalities were completely interchangeable.

If all the extra people and the scenes to nowhere had been judiciously cut, the author would have had time to develop both her characters and the romance more slowly and believably.

The only reason I'm giving the book 2 stars instead of 1 is that a lot of the dialogue is quite good and entertaining. And yet even in that, some of it is stilted, unnatural, and repetitive. The snappy dialogue kept me reading, hoping the book itself would improve. Sadly, it did not.
I finished this book last night. I really enjoyed it, as I have all the Maureen Driscoll books I've read which includes all six in the Kellington series and the other two of the Emerson series.
